Two Minute Drill: Forgiveness is the Only Way to Happiness
What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is forgiveness. I am coming to you from the Eiffel Tower, but of course, it’s not the real Paris because I am in Vegas right now. I am here at the Parker seminar and it’s been an absolutely great event.
Forgiveness
Last night I was hanging out with a couple of friends having a good time, and having some drinks, and one of my friends made a comment that was inappropriate. It was anti-Jewish and anti-Semitic, and I pretty much lost it and walked away.
As I was walking away, going back to my room, I said to myself “I don’t think I can ever be friends with this person ever again.” I was pretty upset. I woke up this morning and this feeling of anger and frustration came over me then I thought about how much energy it was taking and sapping for me, just being upset at this person and thinking about what it was going to feel like to like not have this friendship.
I’m going to see this person a lot for a long time because we’re both very involved in our profession. I just thought It was too much energy to be angry. I think forgiveness is a better way. I texted her and we just had a conversation, we talked through it, and she apologized multiple times. She said it was a learning moment for her and I appreciated that and I feel so much better.
If there’s someone or something in your life that you’re angry about and there’s an opportunity for forgiveness, do forgiveness because it’s so much easier and it’s so much healthier and it’s so much better for you.

Two Minute Drill: The One Question You Need to Ask Yourself
What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is a five-word question. The five-word question is, what will I do differently as I work towards continuous improvement in my life, and in my business? I am constantly thinking about ways to improve. However, it is one thing to think about them and it is another thing to take action.
What will I do differently?
One of the areas where I need to improve is my time management and my scheduling.
For years I have had virtually every single minute of every day booked on my calendar. With some guidance from some friends and some great advice, I have decided to do things a bit differently.
I have changed how I have mapped out my entire day, and now I have time on my schedule so that can work toward projects. I am not just running around like a chicken with my head cut off, Zoom after Zoom, meeting after meeting, visit after visit.
I am going to encourage you to think about this question and take action on it. What will I do differently? Not what can I do differently, but what will I do differently in order to make changes in my life for the better?

What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is stretching yourself. I am not talking about the physical stretching of your muscles, I am talking about stretching your mind, stretching your spirit.
Stretching Yourself
Last week I had a conversation with some friends of mine and they talked about big hairy audacious goals.
One of my friends said, “the next thing I want to do is figure out how to make a million dollars in a month.” I was like, what? I don’t even know how to think like that. That thought would have never occurred to me because I have limited beliefs. I have an upper-limit problem.
It was just great to hear this person say that to the group, say it out loud, and this person is a big thinker and a big doer. If anybody can do it, I’m sure she can. It was just really cool to hear and it just got me thinking about how I think about my life and what I can accomplish.
What I want to know from you guys is what is your big hairy audacious goal. What do you want to do that you have never even thought about doing in the past? What can you put in the comments? What can you share with the rest of the group so that we know what your big hairy audacious goal is?
Even if you only get to 10% or 1% of that goal, guess what? That is still an amazing feat. Stretch yourself! That’s this week’s Two Minute Drill.

What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is cognitive dissonance. I have been thinking about this a lot and just to define cognitive dissonance, it is this the state, this uncomfortable, tension-filled state where beliefs don’t align with actions.
How do we change our behaviors?
What is an example of that? Somebody who knows it is really important to work out every single day, stay fit, and stay healthy and yet they hit the snooze button over and over again. Never getting to the gym! I have been guilty of this. I have been guilty of knowing I need to get to the gym, but I hit the snooze button. In fact, I have been wrestling with this concept, um, a lot recently trying to find ways to get through it.
Resolution of cognitive dissonance is either about changing your beliefs or changing your behaviors, and I think at the end of the day it’s probably a lot harder, but probably a lot more important to change our behaviors.
Finding ways to get to that place where we live our best lives, we become our best selves, is probably more in alignment with what most of us want compared to just changing our beliefs like it is not that important to go to the gym.
How do we change our behaviors? Well, it’s about tiny habits, it’s about habit stacking, and it’s about setting up prompts. It’s about understanding how behaviors work, this combination of ability, motivation, and prompts.
I will be talking about this a lot more In future TMDs, but at the end of the day, if you feel this tension, this state of being where your attitudes and your beliefs are not aligning with your behaviors, try to figure out some really quick wins to change your behaviors, to align with those really important beliefs and values.

What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is failure and success. We are launching our second technology platform literally tomorrow and I was talking to our advisor, Rob, who has been shepherding us, literally shepherding us along the way. I was talking to him yesterday and he said, with a sinister and funny laugh “Don’t forget you asked for this”!
February 1st is the day
It is so true! I asked for this! I did, and it got me thinking about failure, what happens if we fail if it doesn’t work if we don’t see the behaviors that we’re expecting with the use of this new technology?
Then it got me thinking a bit deeper, saying to myself, you know what? Failure is not finite. Success is not finite. The question I need to be asking myself along the is what am I learning? There’s only one thing that’s worse than random success, and that is a random failure. It’s not knowing why you’re being successful or not knowing why you’re not being successful.
As long as I continue to keep my mental toughness, keep my grittiness, don’t get overwhelmed by emotions, and just continue to ask myself the question, what am I learning from this? I think we’re going to be okay.
My encouragement to you is when you’re doing something tough when you’re doing something hard when you’re going through the peaks and the valleys, ask yourself, what am I learning from this?
Because when you do that and you’re increasing your knowledge and your wisdom base, you will ultimately get to the place that you want to get to.

What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is backstage. I love creating content. I love doing these TMDs and for me, it’s all about trying to share my experiences so I can create value for others. However, today I’m going to do something a little bit different. I am going to share the behind-the-scenes.
Backstage
Today’s TMD will be different from previous ones. I am going to share what goes on behind the scenes a little bit so you can see what it’s like. In the lounge in the front of the house, it is where I tape a lot of content. One of the things that I have been working on this week is trying to figure out how to get some new windows in my house because I need some serious new ones.
On the table where I work, you will find some lottery tickets, I did not win mega, unfortunately! you can also find my glasses, I needed them because the font on the directions to get a ring light together is so small, you need an electron microscope to even see what it’s saying. Of course, you my coffee, there are some extra parts for the ring light, and my microphone is hanging off the edge. Something got messed up on the bottom of the microphone and I can’t figure out how to get it to stand up.
That’s my very imperfect life and I just wanted to share that with you because I’m always trying new things and growing as a human being. Sometimes I’m successful and sometimes I stumble. When I stumble, you know what I do, I just get back up.

What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is wisdom. Benjamin Franklin stated that “an investment in knowledge always pays the best interest”. When I talk to my colleagues about the challenges that they face in their businesses and their practices, I’ll often say you either have a people problem, a process problem, or a wisdom problem.
CADREcon
The same thing rings true in our personal lives. We either have people problems, we have process problems, which are personal habits problems, and/or wisdom problems. Wisdom is the secret sauce! It combines knowledge with context and perspective and makes that knowledge actionable. Much of that perspective and context comes from our own lives, but equally as important, it comes from other people’s lives, the community that we surround ourselves with, their context, their perspective, and their experiences.
This got me thinking about this conference that I’m going to be attending in just over three weeks called CADREcon. My good friends, Melanie and Derek Coburn created this amazing community of not just entrepreneurs, but amazing people. Every year they put on this conference for us called CADREcon, and this year they’re bringing in 14 world-class speakers. It’s going to be amazing content, but equally as important is not just what we learn, but the shared experiences and conversations that we share afterward to make that knowledge actionable.
I want to encourage you to seek out a community and seek out learning and combine those two things to create more actionable wisdom in your life. Because when you do that, you’re not just learning things, you’re taking action to make your life better. By the way, by sharing your context, and your perspective, you get to help make the lives of others better as well.

Two Minute Drill: Is Fear-avoidance Holding You Back?
What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is fear avoidance. On Friday, our companies had a 2023 kickoff party. We all got together, went to a restaurant, and it was a great event. One of the components of the event was Trivia.
Fear Avoidance
We had four rounds of Trivia and four teams. It was highly competitive, everybody in my company is highly competitive. It was super fun, and at the end of the four rounds, it was a tie, between the team that I was on and another team. In fact, there was something that we had to do in order to break the tie, and that game or the thing that we had to do was a dance-off.
Now, of course, every single member of my team was pointing at me. They wanted me to do it probably because they wanted me to embarrass myself. Then, of course, this lovely young woman, Sherise, who’s part of our team, was selected for the other team. We had to dance, and the song was Baby Got Back and I did not mess around. I was going to give it my all and Sherise gave it her all. In the end, Sherise won. Now, Maybe I need to teach my team a little something or two about voting on some fly dance moves that I have, but that’s for another TMD.
Today, my left knee was really bothering me, and normally when I go to the gym, I do legs. I know that’s hard to believe, but I really do. I had to do something to help myself, not avoid the pain, but go into the pain and see what I can do to help improve the function of my knee as well as my symptoms. Because I was definitely having problems squatting, fully extending the knee, etc. I came to the gym, rode the bike, did balance training, did flexibility work, and did joint mobility work. Know, I’m doing much better. The lesson is going there into the pain sometimes will help you avoid long-term problems and long-term challenges.
Whether it is physical, emotional, or professional, sometimes you just have to go into the pain, do what you can to address the issue, and see what happens. Maybe the pain gets worse, maybe we need to do something else, maybe the pain and the function and our lives get better and we can continue to progress and improve.
I want to encourage you safely to go into your pain zone, don’t have fear avoidance so that you can live a much healthier and happier life.
