What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill! Today I’m coming to you from Delaware City, Delaware. Last week we celebrated Dr. Allen Huffman, one of our clinic directors, 21-year anniversary with the company. So, today’s topic of conversation is all about longevity.

Longevity

Last week, we were really fortunate because we got to celebrate the 21-year anniversary of one of our clinic directors, Dr. Allen Huffman. It got me thinking, what are the key drivers that made that happen?

So, here’s what I’m going to share with you.

  • Key Driver #1

First of all, it’s first who, then what? It’s the right person in that seat. He clearly aligns with our core values. He is always thinking about the success of the patients, the success of the team, the success of the clinic, and the success of the company.

  • Key Driver #2

Incredible loyalty. Not every moment that we’ve had in the past 21 years has all been roses and butterflies. There have been some challenging times, but he’s been loyal every single step of the way, always standing by my side, our side to make sure that we could overcome literally any challenge that we face.

  • Key Driver #3

It’s about creating the right kind of culture and environment, a supportive, caring, and loving environment to ensure that he actually wanted to stay 21 years and hopefully several more years down the road before he ultimately retires.

So, when you think about creating longevity for people on your team, in your practice, think about the right person, right seat. Do they align with your core values? Make sure that inherently they are loyal and want to get through any challenge with you, whatever challenges you face. Lastly, do whatever you can to create a supportive, caring, and loving environment. That will create longevity for the people on your team.

What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill! Today’s topic of conversation is first who then what, which is a little preview of what you’ll hear more about on my live webinar this Thursday.

Having the Right People

I am super excited because on Thursday at 01:00 P.M. EST, I am giving a live webinar on this entire topic. I first learned about the concept of First who, Then what, from the awesome business book Good to Great by Jim Collins. Now, he has many pearls of wisdom in this book but what I love about chapter two, entitled “First Who, Then What”, is that it deals with the human side of leadership and that’s something that just fascinates me. It is always about how you work with people, how you inspire people, and how you motivate people in order to help them get to their unique abilities and be their best selves.

Now, when it comes to bringing these people into the organization, first Who, how do you know who the right person is?

Well, three quick things I’ll talk about, and I’ll dive a lot deeper into this on Thursday but there are three important elements. One is they have to align with your core values. If you don’t have your core values written down yet, come to the webinar on Thursday and we’ll talk about how to do that. Secondarily, you want to bring people into your organization who are disciplined. Disciplined people with disciplined thought take disciplined action. I watched the Super Bowl this past weekend. They were always talking about their teammates working so hard, getting up at 06:00, a.m. running pass routes, looking at game plans in order to achieve the goal of being world Champions. Lastly, you want to work with people that you actually like. I’m blessed, I have super talented people on my team, they align with my core values, and I also really enjoy their company.

So, when you think about first who, it’s really important that you have the right people aligned with your core values, that they’re disciplined, and you enjoy working with them.

What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill! I’m here in Panama City Beach for the Florida Chiropractic Association Northwest Regional Conference and today’s topic of conversation is about taking control.

Taking Control

I love the FCA and I love speaking to this crowd. It’s a great group. Yesterday, in the context of technology, documentation, and big data, a comment came from one of the members of the crowd who was frustrated around dealing with third-party administrators (you all know who I am referring to). Those liars, pigs, and thieves steal our money and prevent patients from getting the care they need.

I completely understand their frustration.

However, there are things that we can control related to those liars, pigs, and thieves. For instance, we don’t have to be in the network. I know that is really easy to say, but at the end of the day, these third-party administrators cannot exist without a doctor network. So if we want to see them go away, well, don’t join the network. I’m not saying that collectively, because that would be a violation of antitrust, however, everybody needs to make their own decision so we have control over what we do. We can go cash with those patients, we can say no to liars, pigs, and thieves, and we don’t have to sit there and take it the entire time.

There are solutions to these problems. We can control how we run our businesses and our practices, who we accept as patients, who we accept as third-party administrators, and who we accept as insurance companies. So, let’s focus on the things that we can control, and let’s live a healthier, happier life because we make decisions that are in alignment with our core values. At the end of the day, sometimes you have to make tough decisions so that you can get out from under the grasp of liars, pigs, and thieves.

So that’s this week’s two-minute drill. Take control of the things that you’re not happy with. Do something about it. It’s not always easy but it will be, I promise you, rewarding!

Mobile App Improves Treatment Adherence Success in Patients, Groundbreaking Tech Study Finds

Effect of a Mobile Health App on Adherence to Physical Health Treatment: Retrospective Analysis

A groundbreaking tech study by Kaizenovate has found that chiropractic and physiotherapy patients were more likely to adhere to their prescribed treatment plans when using the Kanvas App, than patients who did not download the app. In multiple studies, treatment adherence success has been shown to improve patient outcomes. The introduction of this digital accountability partner will revolutionize musculoskeletal health.

Healthcare providers have long struggled with patients not adhering to prescribed therapy which includes not attending scheduled clinic visits (no-show appointments range from 19 – 42%) or prematurely terminating treatment against the advice of their provider (self-discharge).

A first-of-its-kind study by Kaizenovate has proven that technology can step in to fill this gap, with digital health interventions like the newly developed Kanvas App significantly improving the treatment adherence success rate in chiropractic and physiotherapy patients.

Improving healthcare through technology, Kaizenovate developed the Kanvas App to support patients in their adherence to chiropractic and physiotherapy treatment plans. In addition to providing scheduling requests and patients’ specific home exercise video library, the platform promotes patient engagement through gamification, providing points every time a patient attends their visits, which can be redeemed for healthcare products and services designed to maximize patient outcomes.

“A patient’s adherence to the recommendations of their healthcare provider is the primary determinant of treatment success, often critical when the prescribed healthcare treatment involves chiropractic and physiotherapy to treat acute, subacute, and chronic musculoskeletal pain,” said Dr. Jay Greenstein, CEO of Kaizenovate.

Recently published by JMIR, the Kanvas App was the basis of the Kaizenovate study, which proved that it could drive significantly greater care plan adherence for those who utilized the app.

The study compared adherence to prescribed physical health treatment among more than 4,000 patients attending multiple chiropractic rehabilitation clinics who did and did not choose to adopt a mobile app to complement their treatment.

Patients who downloaded the mobile app exhibited greater rates of completing their prescribed therapy visits than patients who did not download the app.

For patients who self discharged from care, the Kanvas App users had greater adherence to the treatment plans, with an increase of kept prescribed visits at 70% more than those who did not download the app.

Chiropractic and physiotherapy treatments have had historically low patient adherence rates. Digital accountability will revolutionize the industry and elevate the success rate for patients and providers alike.

What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill! It’s a little chilly here in DC but it’s about to heat up real quick as today’s topic of conversation is all about standing up for what’s right.

Sexual Misconduct and Harassment in the Workplace.

It is a little chilly here in DC, I’ve got my hoodie on, but it’s going to heat up really quick on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. On Thursday, Congress is going to be doing a hearing around the investigation of the Washington Football Team and the NFL regarding sexual misconduct and harassment in the workplace.

There are two chairwomen of this oversight committee, and here’s what they have to say. The first chairwoman, Carolyn Maloney, who is chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, says “For more than 20 years, employees of the Washington Football Team were subjected to sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and other misconduct. It is becoming increasingly clear that not only did the team fail to protect employees, but the NFL went to great lengths to prevent the truth about this toxic work environment from coming to light. The NFL’s decision to cover up these abuses raises serious questions about its commitment to setting workplace standards that keep employees safe. I commend these victims for their bravery in coming forward to share their stories. No organization is above the law. I am committed to getting to the bottom of these abuses and ensuring that every American, no matter where they work, is safe from workplace harassment and discrimination.

Now, I know at least two of the people who are going to be testifying, and they are very brave women. One person, in particular, Melanie Coburn, has been standing up and standing out as it relates to this particular issue for a long time. She’s been at the forefront of fighting for the rights of these victims. And that’s not an easy thing to do. It is not easy to stand up and do the right thing when you’re fighting Goliath.

At the end of the day, my hope, my prayer is that good thing happen because she’s been so persistent and gritty around this issue to get to the truth, to get to the bottom line, and to hold the people who are abusive and doing really terrible things to their employees accountable under the law. How to Create Exponential Value for a Potential Customer

Today I am at the Reagan National Airport early Tuesday morning. In fact, the sun is not even out. I am super excited because I am taking a trip to a different place, getting on a plane, getting my bags, and going to a different city to have a great conversation around how we can create exponential value for a potential customer.

My hair is still wet. That’s how early it is. But, I’m really excited! I always push my team and myself to do whatever it takes to find ways to create exponential value. It’s all about value creation first. Anytime you’re dealing with a potential customer and when you create value for others, great things happen.

I am super excited, I can’t wait to get on this plane, I can’t wait to have this meeting, and I can’t wait to have a discussion about how we create exponential value, help patients, help providers, and deliver really meaningful impact for the patients, populations, and providers that we serve.

So, create value, do whatever it takes!
